The D.I.T. Taekwon-Do club looms out from antiquity, founded in the knuckle-dragging days when a thesis was presented through the medium of rough marks chewed into granite slabs with yellowed teeth, in a time when computer processors ran at a shocking 33mhz until you pressed the button that whomped it all the way up to 45mhz, in a time known as the 1980s.
Though the club's origins are shrouded in deep mystery, mostly because anybody that trained here in the early days forgot to leave a written record (pre-internet, if you can imagine such an idea), we do know that it came to its present form in 1992, when the students invited Mr. Kevin Hannigan and Mr. Jim Faulkner to teach at the Kevin St. hall, introducing the original Taekwon-Do as taught by the founder, General Choi Hong Hi. The club’s present instructor is Mr. Cormac Llewellyn, fifth degree black belt, who started his Taekwon-Do career in this very institute and has been teaching here since 1998. Mr Llewellyn is a very experienced instructor and competitor, having successfully competed at national level and represented Ireland at international level regularly since 1997. A more detailed summary of Mr. Llewellyn’s career, in easily-digested table format, is available on this site for your perusal. Assistant instructor at the club is Mr. Stuart O’Reilly, third degree black belt and member of the Irish Team for the last two years.
The club is affiliated with the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) and the Irish National Taekwon-Do Association (INTA).
